SYMPTOM There is a vibration at idle or harsh engagement when shifting the transmission between between Park, Drive, and Reverse. PROBABLE CAUSE The front hydraulic engine mount may have deteriorated and torn. PARTS INFORMATION Front Engine Mount Assembly: 1998-02 Accord V6 – P/N 50810-S87-A82, H/C 7981657 1999-04 Odyssey – P/N 50800-S0X-A04, H/C 7978927 2003-05 Pilot – P/N 50800-S3V-A82, H/C 7984560 WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION In warranty: The normal warranty applies. Failed Part: P/N 50810-S87-A81 H/C 5438593 Defect Code: 01102 Symptom Code: 04501 Skill Level: Repair Technician Out of warranty: Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work. DIAGNOSIS 1. Bring the engine up to operating temperature, and fully apply the parking brake. 2. Have an assistant view the top of the front engine mount while standing to the side of the vehicle. Shift the transmission to Drive. With your foot firmly on the brake pedal, quickly depress the accelerator pedal and release it. Your assistant should look for contact between the top of the engine mount and the bottom of the front engine mount bracket, and listen for noise from that area. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Drive the vehicle onto a lift, but do not raise it. 2. Odyssey – Remove the intake manifold cover and the front ignition coil cover: •See page 9-4 of the 1999-04 Odyssey Service Manual. •Online, enter keyword INTAKE , and select Intake Manifold Removal and Installation from the list. 3. PROCEDURE FOR 2003 ESCORT ZX2 PROCEDURES FOR 1997-2002 ESCORT, ESCORT ZX2 AND TRACER ^DRIVEABILITY – IDLE VIBRATION – VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L SPI OR ZETEC ENGINE ONLY ^ENGINE – IDLE VIBRATION – VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L SPI OR ZETEC ENGINE ONLY 1. Neutralize engine mounts only. Refer to appropriate model year Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) Workshop Manual Section 100-04. 1. Shift the transaxle into Neutral and apply the parking brake. 2. Remove battery and battery tray. 3. Support engine with Three-Bar Engine Support Tool (Rotunda 303-D063) and Lifting Brackets (Rotunda 303-050). 4. Raise vehicle. Refer to the appropriate model year Workshop Manual, Section 100-02. Zoom Sized for Print 5. Remove the rear lower cross-member (attached with four (4) bolts (Figure 1)) 6. Remove the engine support cross-member that runs from front to rear of the engine (Belly Band). This can be accomplished by removing the front two (2) attaching bolts, the rear two (2) attaching nuts and the four (4) Engine Mount # 1 and # 2 nuts (Figure 1). 7. Modify the Belly Band on the two rear attaching Engine Mount # 1 holes by slotting the holes approximately 1/4″ (6 mm) in a front to rear direction. Use a Drill Bit (Figure 7). 8. Loosen the center bolt on the # 1 (rear) lower Engine Mount (Figure 4). 9. Loosen the center bolt on the # 2 (front) lower Engine Mount (Figure 4) 10. Remove original front and rear engine support cross-member bushings (Figure 3). Zoom Sized for Print a. Modify two (2) new Front-Upper Engine Support Cross-Member Bushings only (F7CZ-6A061-AA) by removing approximately 1/4″ (6 mm) of material from two (2) sides of the upper bushing. Use a utility knife or hack saw to achieve desired shape (Figure 2). b. Reinstall front attaching point of engine support cross-member with the original two (2) bolts, two (2) new Lower Bushings (F7CZ-6A061-BA), and two (2) new Upper Bushings (F7CZ-6A061-AA) that were modified in Step A (Figure 3). Apply 2-3 drops of threadlocker (EOAZ-19554-AA) to the bolts. c. Reinstall rear attaching point of engine support cross-member using new Bushings (F7CZ-6A061-BA and F7CZ-6A061-AA) and original nuts (Figure 3). Both rear position upper bushings must be installed in “AS IS” condition (UNMODIFIED). d. Torque the retaining nuts and bolts to 64-89 N.m (47-65 lb-ft.). 11. Reinstall the front attaching points of the Belly Band with the original two (2) bolts. Apply 2-3 drops of threadlocker (EOAZ-19554-AA) to the bolts (Figure 1). 12. Reinstall rear-attaching points of the Belly Band with original two (2) nuts (Figure 1). 13. Torque the retaining nuts and bolts to 64-89 N-m (47-65 lb-ft.)

REMOVAL 1. Remove the crankshaft pulley with pulley holding pins and end yolk holder tool Nos. MD998715 and MB990767, or equivalents. 2. Refer to the illustration for the service procedures, noting the following: 3. Before removing the timing belt, align the timing marks and loosen the center bolt on the tension pulley to remove the timing belt. 4. If the auto tensioner rod is in its fully extended position, reset it as follows: a. Keep the auto tensioner level and, in that position, clamp it in the vise with soft jaws. NOTE: Make a mark on the back of the timing belt, indicating the direction of rotation, so it may be reassembled in the same direction if it is to be reused. Zoom Sized for Print Zoom Sized for Print b. Push in the rod little by little with the vise until the set hole A in the rod is aligned with that B in the cylinder. c. Insert a wire, 1.4 mm (0.055 inch) in diameter, into the set holes. d. Unclamp the auto tensioner from the vise. e. Install the auto tensioner. INSTALLATION 1. Align the timing marks of the camshaft sprockets and crankshaft sprocket. 2. Install the timing belt by the following procedure so that there is no defection in the timing belt between each sprocket and pulley. a. Crankshaft sprocket b. Idler pulley c. Camshaft sprocket (front side) d. Water pump pulley e. Camshaft sprocket (rear side) f. Tension pulley 3. Turn the camshaft sprocket (right side) counterclockwise until the tension side of the timing belt is firmly stretched, and then check again that all timing marks are aligned. 4. Use the tension pulley socket wrench tool No. MD998769, or equivalent, to push the tension pulley into the timing belt, and then temporarily tighten the center bolt. 5. Use the crankshaft sprocket spacer tool No. MD998769, or equivalent, to turn the crankshaft 1/4 of a turn counterclockwise and then turn it again clockwise until the timing marks are aligned.

REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: ISIS online service manual information is only available for vehicles 1990 and newer. 1. Remove the rear trailing arm: •Refer to the suspension section of the appropriate service manual, or •Online, enter keyword REAR SUSPENSION, then select Suspension Arms Replacement from the list. 2. Mark the trailing arm at the arrow on the bottom of the bushing 3. Place the arm on a hydraulic press, supported by the hub base, with the spindle facing up. 4. With the hub driver, press the old bushing out of the trailing arm. 5. Install the new bushing with the short end toward the outside of the vehicle. Align the arrow with the mark you made on the trailing arm. 6. Press the new bushing into the trailing arm until its edge is 10 to 12 mm above the surface of the arm. 7. Reinstall the trailing arm. 8. If necessary, repeat steps 1 thru 7 to install a new bushing in the other rear trailing arm. 9. Bleed the brake system: •Refer to the brakes section of the appropriate service manual, or •Online, enter keyword BLEED, then select Brake System Bleeding from the list. 10. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if needed: •Refer to the suspension section of the appropriate service manual, or •Online, enter keyword WHEEL ALIGNMENT, then select Wheel Alignment – Rear Toe Inspection/Adjustment from the list

ISSUE Some 1997-2005 E-Series/F-150/F-Super Duty 4×2 vehicles may exhibit a driveline clunk or bump that occurs as the vehicle starts to move forward, following a stop. This condition may be caused by the slip yoke not sliding smoothly on the output shaft splines. ACTION Lubricate the slip yoke with Motorcraft PTFE Lubricant. Disassembly 1. Raise the vehicle and install Rotunda Car/Truck Stands 077-00018 or equivalent. 2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. 3. Remove the retainer washers and remove the hub assembly. Refer to Manual Locking or Automatic Locking Hubs under Front Wheel Bearing Adjustment in this section for removal. 4. Remove the disc brake caliper (2B120) as described in Section 06-03 . 5. Remove the hub and rotor. Remove the outer wheel bearing cone. 6. Remove the wheel hub grease seal (1190) from the rotor with Seal Remover TOOL-1175-AC or equivalent and Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A. Discard wheel hub grease seal and replace upon assembly. 7. Remove excluder seal. 8. Remove the inner wheel bearing. 9. NOTE: If new wheel bearing cups are installed, install new cone and roller assemblies. Inspect the wheel bearing cups for pits or cracks. If necessary, remove them with Internal Puller D80L-943-A or equivalent and Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100- A. Assembly 1. Lubricate the wheel bearings with High Temperature Constant Velocity Grease E43Z-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESP-M1C207-A. Clean all grease from the hub. Pack the cones and rollers. If a bearing packer is not available, work as much lubricant as possible between the rollers and the cages. 2. If wheel bearing cups are to be installed, position wheel bearing cups in rotor and drive in place with Bearing Cup Replacer T80T-4000-P and Driver Handle T80T-4000-W. 3. Position excluder seal on spindle and drive into position using Spindle Seal Replacer T95T-3132-D. 4. Position the inner wheel bearing in the inner wheel bearing cup in the rotor. Install the wheel hub grease seal by driving in place with Seal Replacer T80T-4000-T and Driver Handle T80T-4000-W. 5. Carefully install the rotor onto the front wheel spindle (3105). Refer to Section 06-03 . 6. Install outer wheel bearing into rotor. 7. Refer to Automatic Locking Hubs under Front Wheel Bearing Adjustment in this section for remainder of installation

NOTE: It is necessary to plug the hydraulic lines immediately with plugs 129 589 91 07 and the connections with plugs 129 589 00 91 11. 1. Remove the differential case. For additional information, refer to Differential Case in this section. 2. NOTE: The differential bearings need not be removed to overhaul the Ford limited slip differential. If bearing removal is required, for additional information, refer to Differential Case in this section. NOTE: The anti-lock speed sensor ring cannot be reused once removed. Remove the differential pinion shaft lock bolt and remove the differential pinion shaft. ? If required, remove the ring gear and anti-lock speed sensor ring. 3. NOTE: This tool does not have the 1/2-inch drive hole. Install the special tool in a suitable vise. 2003 F-Super Duty 250-550/Excursion Workshop Manual 5. Install the special tool in the bottom side gear bore. ? Apply a small amount of grease to the centering hole of the special tool. 6. Install the nut in the upper differential side gear. Hold the nut in position while installing the hex screw. Tighten the hex-head screw until contact is made with the Step Plat 2003 F-Super Duty 250-550/Excursion Workshop Manual 7. Insert a suitable dowel bar in the hole of the nut. Tighten the forcing screw to force the differential side gear away from the differential pinion gears. The dowel bar is used to keep the nut from turning when the forcing screw is tightened. NOTE: Differential pinion thrust washers cannot be removed independently of the differential pinion gears and so must be removed simultaneously with the differential pinion gears. Insert the special tool in the pinion shaft bore and turn the differential case to “walk” the differential pinion gears and differential pinion thrust washers out to the differential case windows. 9. Remove the differential pinion gears and differential pinion thrust washers. 10. Remove the differential side gears and differential clutch packs and tag them RIGHT and LEFT with the shim

SERVICE PROCEDURE To service, reduce/minimize moisture intrusion into the rear drum brake assemblies by applying Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket and Sealant to the brake backing plate . WARNING Do not breathe dust or use compressed air to blow dust from storage containers or friction components. Remove dust using government-approved techniques. Friction component dust may be a cancer and lung disease hazard. Exposure to potentially hazardous components may occur if dusts are created during repair of friction components, such as brake pads and clutch discs. Exposure may also cause irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, and may cause allergic reactions and/or may lead to other chronic health effects. If irritation persists, seek medical attention or advice. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury. 1. Place vehicle on hoist and remove the rear wheels. 2. Remove the rear brake drums and replace the rear linings. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-02. 3. Inspect the rear brake assemblies for damaged, missing and/or improperly seated adjuster plug or parking brake cable . 4. Inspect and clean the lining contact area of the brake drum ; machine if necessary. 5. Reinstall the rear brake drums and adjust the lining to drum clearance per WSM, Section 206-02. 6. Thoroughly clean the backside of the rear drum brake backing plate to promote proper adhesion of sealant. Zoom Sized for Print 7. Apply Motorcraft(R) Silicone Gasket and Sealant to the backside of the rear drum brake backing plate at the following inter[ace areas (Figure 1): ^Axle Flange ^ Wheel Cylinder ^ Parking Brake Cable ^Hold Down Pins 8. Reinstall the rear wheels and torque lug nuts per Workshop Manual, Section 204-04.
